Overview

Bixtr is a new banking fintech platform that I built alongside an ex-Ubuntu colleague, the plan was to help users better understand their finances like spending & savings by creating a smart ML product that determines the prediction of expenses, anomalies & support improvements.

I wanted to map out a typical user journey from observations. This helped me understand opportunities, improvements & pain points in the process so I could narrow down the needs & problems. The task model mapped out the process from actions like research, and decision, down to the final purchase.

This was needed for me to better understand the onboarding journey & security. Started sketching to plan out the design of wireframes to correspond with user stories & needs.

From data users want effective ways to save, the savings feature allowed the users to set goals, targets, reminders & save as they spend. The benefit was that it would act as an incentive for users to save.

Created an Invision prototype I tested functions such as search, filter, spending overview & savings.

Lo-fi prototypes - lo-fi & hi-fi prototypes created with the wireframes
A/B testing - Performed on the search & filtering option.

User testing - Carrying out hypothetical tasks using a survey and prototype.

Outcome

The challenges faced to build a banking platform are immensely doing partnerships with third parties it involve exceptional costs i.e verification, card payment service, databases, AWS & a full dev team to build the design, not to mention the costs of having the card printed. Other than the design & idea this concept got to a basic level but didn't progress to a build due to the implications above.

Key Learnings

Building a product that initially seemed simple on the design front end, learnt it needed considerable investment. Building a concept bank was something I found extremely exciting & a fun challenge especially understanding the actual user needs & goals. I've learnt a lot during the process, especially in regards to the business, architecture & building based upon real user data.
